New Century Care Homes stepped up to the challenge of baking a phenomenal amount of cakes, all in aid of MacMillan Cancer Support's The Worlds Biggest Coffee Morning.
The Worlds Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan's biggest fundraising event for people fighting cancer. Their first coffee morning was launched in 1991, where 300,000 people took part, and raised over £250,000 for the charity. It was so successful that each year, more and more people got involved, and in February 2012, Macmillan announced that 2011’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning raised a record £10m to help people affected by cancer.
This year, New Century Care Homes came together across the board to bake, make and sell cakes and coffee to raise money for this fantastic cause, with many of our residents participating in creating the culinary masterpieces. Some of our Homes, including The Oaks Care Home, in Colchester, decided to bring out their competitive streak and held baking competitions. Jenna Wright, the Oaks' chef won 'Star Baker' with her carrot cake!
New Century Care Home's raise over £1,300 for MacMillan's Coffee Morning.
Sycamore Hall Care Home's Activities Coordinators, Jill and Laura, drummed up local trade with an array of wonderful bakes, raising £425.00, which was a fantastic effort.
In total we raised over £1,300, as a group. Thank you to everyone in all of our homes who baked, decorated, got involved, and donated.
