Staff from across Aldwick House Care Home rode from Brighton to Bognor Regis, alongside residents’ families, to raise money to redevelop the popular sensory garden at the home.Â
Staff from across Aldwick House Care Home came together, on Saturday 10 June, with residents’ families to take on an epic bike ride in a bid to raise money to redevelop the popular sensory garden at the home.Â
This ride is just one of many fundraising activities the home has taken part in to maintain this garden. Previously, the Activities Coordinator, Donna, did a sponsored silence which raised ÂŁ400. Members of staff taking part include Donna Giles, the Activities Coordinator, Karen Crosby, Home Manager, Jon Catterwell, the Area Manager.Â
The riders cycled from Brighton back home to Bognor Regis, a total of 31 miles, all in aid of the sensory garden they have in the grounds of Aldwick House, which has been specifically designed for residents with dementia.
The sensory garden is a great facility for residents at Aldwick House, allowing them to and enjoy the sunshine during the summer months, have enjoy their own quiet time, and engage in one-to-one activities with the nurses, as well enjoy scents and sights that take them back to their childhood. This includes the honeysuckle plant grown for one resident to remind her of her own grandmother’s garden. Donna Giles, the Activities Coordinator at Aldwick House said: “The sensory garden is such an important resource for some of our residents, and achieving our goal of ÂŁ500 will mean that we can continue to keep it in prime condition, and add to the facilities it provides." The team at Aldwick House Care Home rode from Brighton to Bognor Regis, alongside residents’ families, to raise money to redevelop the popular sensory garden at the home.Â
“Fundraising events like these are a great chance for us to come together as a community and make a difference to Aldwick House. I thought my sponsored silence was a challenge since I’m such a chatterbox but this bike ride will be something different- especially as we’re not doing any training for it!”
